Carlos Alcaraz becomes 6-0 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Arthur Rinderknech.
Carlos Alcaraz had transformed a musty moment into an out-of-control win with a scintillating near miss to his evening match with Arthur Rinderknech on Monday at the BNP Paribas Open. Following the large serving Frenchman with a set and an early break, Alcaraz reversed the fortunes of the match to a comfortable 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-2 win in Indian Wells which made the start of the season 2026 in 14 matches straight and perfect.
“He was playing his best tennis, I would say, in the first, the beginning of the second. For me, it was really really difficult,” said Alcaraz , who was pegged back by an aggressive start from Rinderknech.
“I got in trouble, to be honest, but just really happy with the way that I dealt with everything that was happening. I accepted it, kept going, stayed strong mentally and then tried to do a little bit different. I think I just started to play more solid, waiting for my chances.”
Alcaraz had almost stolen a tight opening set, but missed a forehand on set point at 6/5 when she had recovered a set point she was behind 2- 5. Rinderknech had the full benefit of making the tie- break, after which he used to his edge to smash in on the second set with an opening break. However, having beaten both break point by him in the first set with fearless tennis, Rinderknech was unable to retain the initial set break in the second set. According to Infosys ATP Stats, Alcaraz converted 4 of 10 break opportunities in the second and third sets and overcame his opponent after he found his groove on the stadium court.
Not even ankle concern would halt Alcaraz in his stride to the finish line, as there was a moment that he misstepped at the beginning of set 2. Alcaraz is having his physio examine the ankle, but it appeared that his action received all the answers necessary on the field: “I moved in the third set perfectly, so hopefully tomorrow is going to be like nothing at all,” he said.
Besides extending his winning streak at the start of the season, which includes also Australian Open and Doha titles, Alcaraz also claimed his 32 consecutive victories in outdoor hard courts, since Miami last year. Alcaraz also increased to 6-0 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head with Rinderknech who has now lost 11 of his last 12 sets with the No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Alcaraz will then carry a 5-1 Lexus ATP Head2Head record with him to his last 16 match with Casper Ruud. The Norwegian, who is ranked no.13, also overcame a deficit to progress on Monday and defeated Valentin Vacherot, the 24th seed, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
