On Wednesday, Valve announced its next wave of hardware, which includes a new version of the Steam Machine, a gaming PC that is to be operated in a console-like manner. It also unveiled the Steam Frame, the next VR headset produced by Valve, a new Steam Controller, none of which will be available until at least early 2026.
In a news release, Valve replied that it will provide more detailed time after the first of the year. The three products will be shipped into the Canada, the UK, the EU, and Australia. The distribution of Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be done by Komodo who currently distribute the Steam Deck.
The Steam Machine is made in the shape of a cube, will be powered by Steam OS, is game-friendly, and is meant to be placed in front of your television like a game console, or, on your desktop like a game PC. It is a PC and hence you can install another operating system or other applications and programs.
Ans similarly to the Steam Deck, all is required is to log into your Steam account to access all the games on your Steam library.
The Steam Machine will be based on semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C/ 12T (up to 4.8 GHz, 30W TDP), semi-custom AMD RDNA3 28 CUs (2.45 GHz max sustained clock, 110W TDP), and 16GB DDR5 + 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. It will consist of two models, a 512 GB and a 2 TB model, both of which will have slots of high-speed microSD cards.
The Steam Frame headset is designed to broadcast all the games you have on Steam, rather than only those that may be considered VR. It is said to be comfortable, has no wires, is lightweight, and can be used as a controller with regular PC games and VR games.
The last hardware to be revealed is the new Steam Controller of Valve. The owners of the Steam Deck will detect the trackpads on each side of the controller, as found on the Steam Deck. They work well with the games that normally require the use of a mouse and keyboard such as first person shooters or real time strategy.
The Steam Controller will be excessively customizable with the trackpads and grip buttons located on the back.
Valve wrote on the store page of this hardware: “Thanks to its input parity with Steam Deck, Steam Controller will be pre-populated with community configurations for thousands of games from day one, or you can make and share your own.”
Prices of Steam Machine, Steam Frame, or new Steam Controller are not yet announced by Valve, yet each of them can be added to the Wishlist through Steam.
